In the sleek beauty of the "iPad", I saw a potentially unmatched sales aid.  Whether you are an entrepreneur selling your own business, or a corporate sales professional selling for someone else, I want you to think about getting rid of all those "sales pieces" and instead having a smooth slide show or even a short movie to start your next cold call, educate a customer, and close the deal.  Aesthetically, the "iPad" offers all of that.  There you are.  You are confident in your product and your company.  Your client isn't quite so sure.  You have your presentation ready and your talking points memorized.  This time, instead of handing over another spiral bound flip book or clunky laptop, you...

Could or would Wayne Gretzky become the next NHL commissioner? Is it a dream come true? Gretzky to the rescue to save NHL hockey, end the lockout, and everyone could return to play NHL hockey as if nothing ever happened. Gretzky has the reputation of being the great one. Gretzky comes to rescue the league time and time again when he laces up the skates and steps onto the ice. Did he not save the Los Angeles team when he was traded from the Edmonton Oilers. And now, perhaps, maybe, somehow, help the two sides end the lockout. On Sporting New Radio, Chris Chelios was reported saying Gretzky has his vote for league commissioner and hockey fans back Chelios up on this. Gretzky has been labeled the great...

It is safe to say that a lot of people love dogs, though some others are just not the dog-lover type. They may prefer to pet turtles, birds, hamsters or maybe even wild animals, while some others, just loves cats or kittens. Personal likes and dislikes differ, but there is one thing that's certain: pets provide us with more than just companionship. Kittens have wild instincts. However, they make wonderful pets. They are versatile, affectionate, intelligent, sociable and independent. Taking care of kittens may sound easy, but it requires a lot of responsibility. This responsibility leads you to raise various questions about caring for kittens. Cat-proofing your home Kittens are playful animals. So...

An aggressive cat can be very dangerous to other animals and the people in your household. Not only are cat scratches and bites painful but they can become infected and leave permanent scars. For smaller animals in the household, cat aggression behavior can cause permanent injury and even death. To treat cats aggression, you must first know it's cause. There are many reasons for cat aggression behavior. They may be acting out of fear, a need to protect their territory or to protect their offspring (cat maternal aggression), because of over petting, or due to illness as well as a number of other situations. A cat who learns that his aggressive tactics work will continue to use the behavior when the...

Marcomm - What's That

Posted by admin

I've been a "marcom" professional for more years than I care to admit. And to this day, when asked what I do for a living, marcom elicits a quizzical look, or a hmmmm, or simply the next question in the series, "what's that." Say you are a crisis manager, teacher or even a publicist, and the questions end there - the name pretty much communicates the job description. Not so with a marcom professional. I used to give my "60-second pitch" explaining that marcom is short for marketing communications, and that it simply means that I assist clients with their communications, marketing, and outreach activities. "Oh, - you are in public relations." Well, that's part of it. "I see - you are in advertising...

Pregnancy! Ah, the excitement. Oh, the many questions. Did you know that a pregnant woman needs 300 more calories than she normally would? Her need for calcium, iron, and folic acid are greater now than ever. The growing baby needs lots of calcium to grow healthy teeth and bones. How much calcium does a pregnant woman need? Well, about 1000 milligrams, or about 40% more than she already gets if she is getting adequate amounts before pregnancy. See, like a lot? You would be surprised where you can find the calcium that you need. Low-fat dairy products contain a great amount of calcium, as do green vegetables, dried beans and cereal. Did you know that one of the most common problems of pregnant women...

v> Stray dogs are hard working as they have spent a large part of their lives struggling for food and life. They are grateful for the security and nourishment you provide and are ready to show that it was all worth it. However, before taking a stray dog home you need to do a few things in advance. Giving home to a homeless is among the most noble things, a man is capable of doing. A stray dog who scavenges to eat and lives at the crumbs thrown by others is not a pretty sight for most of us, and that's the reason why most of us have entertained the thought of bringing a stray dog home at some point of time in our lives. However, most of the time we did not act upon the thought because we thought it...

One of the great joys of sharing your life with a dog is the fact that they have the potential to act as ambassadors for making new friends and acquaintances. People are far more likely to strike up a conversation with you when you are with a dog. On the down side, people are also likely to make comments and offer advice without solicitation. I recently had a third lesson with a lovely woman who had adopted a five-month-old Newfoundland puppy from a rescue group. A few minutes into the lesson, I realized that her eyes were welling up with tears. She explained that she was feeling terrible guilt about her puppy. It seems that someone had stopped her on the street to let her know how horrible they...

Many people around the world are getting more and more attracted to owning pets, especially cute little puppies. In fact, both in US and Great Britain, it became a hobby and a way of life not only for families but also for single men and women. This is also the reason why pet stores sell dogs intensively, and Golden Retriever pups are not the exception. However, not all consumers know and understand that most puppies sold in pet stores come from puppy mills. At the puppy mills dogs are often in poor health, over bred and kept in cages for the lifetime. Many dog owners would say that they have saved the dogs' lives after taking them out from their harsh breeding environment. Well, from one hand they...

Bringing a second dog home requires a lot of thought. It means a complete change in your "normal" family routine. It matters not whether the new dog is a puppy or an adult. There are many things to consider before you bring the new pet home. It is not just a matter of bringing the new dog home and you all will live happily ever after (though that can be a remote possibility.) You need to take time to think this new undertaking through and mull over these questions: Are you living on a tight budget? A second dog will require annual vet visits, will need food, toys, perhaps a new crate and possible training classes. A second dog requires "time." Do you have extra time to play, for walks, time to...

They are really cute to look at and to play with and this is something that the entire family will enjoy. Instead, it is a good idea for a lot of families to instead consider adopting an adult dog. Here are a few thoughts on rehoming an adult dog. So why should you get yourself an adult dog instead of a puppy? Well the main reason is simply because adult dogs are much calmer and easy to handle. The main reason why people ever get a puppy when they are adopting...

Did you know that even your dog health can suffer from cold? However, he doesn’t get a runny nose like you, but his dog health can get affected by a coughing infection generally known as Kennel cough. Kennel cough (medical term: canine infectious tracheobronchitis) is an infection that causes mild irritation due to the thickening of the trachea lining. Pet health care experts suggest that a dog who suffers from this disease may cough frequently. The frequency of coughing could be every few minutes as well as through the entire day. The London Multiethnic Reality

Being one of the largest and most populated cities of Europe, London, the United Kingdom's capital is a cosmopolitan area in which a highly diverse range of peoples, cultures and religions coexist today. According to a Guardian newspaper editorial, "London in 2005 can lay claim to being the most diverse city ever." With more than 300 different languages spoken in London's streets by its permanent residents, such a claim seems at least reasonable. During my last London visit, I was astonished by the multicultural experience a tourist like me could have, just by visiting different neighborhoods and talking to a variety of people. In fact, the city is considered today to be an international transport...

How Dogs Became Pets

Posted by admin

The domestic dog is loyal and courageous, intelligent and adaptable. Useful as well as affectionate, the dog guards people's flocks, plays with their children, and helps them hunt. A loving pet, the dog is known as a trusted companion. Wherever human beings live--whether in an Eskimo village, a jungle clearing, or a crowded city--dogs live, too. In the United States alone, about 34 million dogs are kept as pets. Some are mongrels. Others are pedigreed--for through selective breeding people have created many distinct kinds of dogs. In North America alone, more than 120 standard breeds are recognized. People admire domestic dogs. But they usually fear the dog's untamed relatives--the wolves, coyotes...

How can we solve all the World's problems in the current paradigm? Especially considering all the linear thinking going on these days, as it appears we are solving one problem only to create two-more? One gentleman said recently to our online think tank that he had noticed that it was hard to solve challenges that face our societies and civilizations in the present period with all the mystical and false assumptions of the masses. Also the media and spin changes the reality a bit in people's minds who are not certain what on Earth they really want. Indeed. Indeed. This is definitely getting to the root of the issue. It seems we have so many "Created Realities" running simultaneously along with the...

A dog that runs back and forth barking and snarling at another dog from behind a fence might need training on how to eliminate his dog fence fighting aggression. Fenced in animals do not get the luxury of meeting in the usual way. Because of this, there is a tension that cannot be alleviated. If a dog is left by himself all day, then sometimes he will try to make his own entertainment. One way he might go about this is by fence fighting. The dogs involved may not even really want to injure each other, but just are frustrated that they are separated. They have just found an activity to occupy their time. If you have an inside dog, and the aggression only begins when he is outside, then it may be...

Norwegian Elkhound: "The Moosedog"

The Norwegian Elkhound can be traced as far back as the stone ages. Through the study of the fossils from that time it can be determined that there existed the same basic dog that we know of today as the Elkhound. This breed has such purity of ancestry that it can be considered to be one of the most ancient of all the dogs. The Norwegian word for the dog", elghund" actually means "moosedog" however, Elkhound is the translation which stuck. Hound is probably not an appropriate term for the dog does not have any hound in its genetic makeup. However despite this the dog was brought into the American Kennel club in the Hound group. Devotees of the breed find that having the dog in this class or...

Training Your Pit Bull

It is important for every pet to learn to behave himself as well as follow commands when he is performing an undesirable or bad behavior. Unacceptable actions of dogs need to be corrected to avoid future problems of you having an unruly pooch that cannot be controlled. Pets lacking the necessary training may later on anger their human masters and end up in animal shelters with no one wanting to take them home. Although Pit Bulls have had a bad reputation among pet lovers, they can be very lovable pets. It is the dog owner's responsibility to make sure that their pets behave well at home and most especially when they have visitors or are brought outside for a walk or a jog. It is essential for you to...

To stop a dog from excessive barking can be real challenge if you don't know where to start. There are ways to get your dog to stop barking and it can be much simpler if you listen to someone who has years of experience with such problems. I don't know of anything much more annoying than a dog which seems the need to let everyone and every creature, that it is in the neighborhood. It can even get to the point where the individual must get rid of the dog. That could be heart breaking. Some dogs seem to just sit there and continuously bark, while others just bark from inside the house when someone comes to the door. Some just bark to let other dogs know they are there and some only bark when they get...

The golden retriever is perhaps the most popular family dog and rightly so as its gentle temperament makes it a great companion for families with children. originating from Britain this breed is an excellent tracker and has been used as a hunting dog and also to help sniff out narcotics. They are very intelligent and eager to please as well as fast learners which makes them great candidates for guide and therapy dogs. A member of the American kennel club sporting group, the golden retriever was first registered at the AKC in 1925. By breed standards they should be between 20 and 24 inches in height and weigh between 55 and 80 pounds. If cared for properly, the golden retriever can live for 12...

Multo en Parvo - a lot of dog in a small space. This Latin phrase is often used to describe the playful clown of the dog world, the irrepressible Pug. A tiny package of bundled energy, the pug's bulldog-like stance belies his classification as a 'toy' sized breed. Even with his overtly distinctive looks, it is the pug's amazing personality that sets him apart from other breeds. Delightfully friendly, pugs have an aesthetic quality that is uniquely their own. Their wrinkled faces, short snouts, curled tails and solid bodies have helped earn the Pug instant recognition on the street. Few breeds of dog are as distinctive as the pug; the common use of the term "pug ugly" suggests how recognizable...

To the casual observer it does not appear that a Show Dog needs to know a lot in order to show. It is easy to believe that all the dog does is run around and stand still and let the judge examine him. In reality, a polished Show Dog has been well trained and it has taken a number of years and/or a lot of practice to get to the point where he presents a flawless picture to the judge. The dog often gaits naturally but sometimes the dog wants to pace instead. A dog who paces does not present a smooth flowing picture to the judge and furthermore it is often more difficult to discern whether he is moving straight in the front. A judge does not want the dog to run around for no reason. While the dog...

Have you ever noticed how dogs begin barking quietly with a menacing growl which gradually escalates to a loud howling bark? Maybe, you have you noticed how some dogs sustain their barks until they are acknowledged? These dogs are barking to give their master a warning or an alarm. These types of barking arise from the dog's observation and judgment of his surroundings. Dogs do not bark to create noise and to annoy their masters' neighbors. They bark because they want to tell their masters something. Through barking, dogs are able to express their feelings and catch their masters' attention. Barking is the way they indicate their fear, their anger, their loneliness, etc. Dogs and Wolves: It's not in...

The weather outside is frightful. Winter winds are blowing hard this year and your four-legged friend still needs to go outside to take care of his business. How can you keep him warm when he's got to be out in the cold? Some dogs barely notice the lower temperatures, while others can hardly go outside without shivering. Older dogs and puppies have trouble dealing with the chill, as well as dogs with health issues. How can you help your furry friend stay warm this holiday season? Keep your dog indoors as much as possible. While dogs have to go outside to do their business, they don't have to spend long periods of time outdoors. If your dog is sensitive to the cold wait by the door while he is...

I use Dachshund and Chihuahua as a foundation for starters because my little dog, Hollie, I believe is part Dachshund and part Chihuahua. When I found her at a rescue, the information I received was that she was a four month old miniature Dachshund. But as she grew her legs got very long and her belly area became more concaved like a Chihuahua. I also found her mannerisms to be mixed between the two breeds as well. This included the dilemma of housebreaking. Because the Dachshund is a strong working dog, they have a very willful personality. This tends to make them stubborn and/or independent. Although the Dachshund is trainable they may not be easy to train. As a matter of fact the Dachshund...

When I brought Mandy home from the rescue, I was ecstatic. But by the end of the day, the only thought that was running through my mind was that I had to find out how to train a German Shepherd. Mandy was knocking me down, running all over the place, and basically dominating our home. I knew I had to do something fast, but the truth was that when we decided to adopt her, I had never given any thought at all to how to train a German Shepherd. Looking around found me a lot of information on how to train a German Shepherd, some of which helped, but a lot of which just made things worse. One of the biggest pieces of bad information I came across was that you should always reward your dog with a treat...

Heatstroke in Dogs

Many dog owners think about heatstroke as being a problem that occurs in the summer. They take precautions to make sure their dog does not overexert itself and stays well hydrated. Since their domestication, dogs have held a myriad of jobs given to them by their human leaders. From service dogs to herders, dogs have an almost limitless capacity for learning. Perhaps one of the more controversial jobs given to dogs is that of attack dog. Attack dogs are trained to bite on the command of their owner. Although it may seem like it is a barbaric practice, training attack dogs does have its uses, mainly in law enforcement. Not to be confused with guard dogs, which are trained to be extremely protective of a specified area, attack dogs do not go on the offensive until its handler gives the orders. Most who are interested in having a dog trained as an attack dog go through a...

Despite its large size the Akita does not eat that much and feeding it is relatively cheap compared to other dogs of similar size. Just like people a good diet is essential for maintaining your dog's health.
